I've been dragging myself through the week lately, feeling like a smartphone with a dying battery. Sound familiar? Yeah, I thought so.

When we overcomplicate our lives—whether through excessive commitments, chaotic schedules, or unhealthy habits—our energy levels tend to drop.

Simplifying our routines helps eliminate unnecessary stressors and distractions, allowing us to focus on what truly energises us.

So, I decided to strip things back to basics and focus on keeping my energy levels from nose-diving as the week goes on.

Let's cut through the noise and get down to some no-nonsense tips to stop overcomplicating things and keep your energy tank filled.

Trust me, it's simpler than you might think.

How to keep your energy high and stop overcomplicating things:

  1. Prioritise Early Bedtime

Yeah, I know you want to watch that next Netflix series, but it's killing your energy for the next day. Get to bed before 10 pm and realise sleep is the #1 thing that will give you energy tomorrow.

  2. Replace Your Morning Coffee with water first thing

You might have conditioned yourself to think you need that early morning coffee, but here's the truth: your adenosine system needs to wake up before you can really feel the caffeine benefits.

Try this instead: wait 90 minutes after waking for that coffee (or avoid it altogether!) and drink water with a pinch of salt.

  3. Focus on Protein Intake

Getting 30g of protein early doors is crucial for staying satiated and avoiding those energy-crashing junk food binges later. I've found that focusing on this has helped me eat more healthily throughout the day. Win-win.

  4. Move Your Body

Feel free to interpret this in any way you see fit. A 10-minute walk first thing, or some 'exercise snacking' (short bursts of movement) throughout the day can work wonders for your energy levels. Just move your body, however you like.

  5. Chase the Sunlight

Set your circadian rhythm (the cycle that keeps you awake when you're meant to be awake, and asleep when you need to sleep) by getting 15-20 minutes of sunlight as early in the morning as you can.

  6. Create Boundaries and Stick To Them

You need to be able to say no to people and things throughout the day that aim to distract you and take your energy. bloc out your calendar for some of the things above as they will help you get more stuff done.

  7. Review Each Day

Spend 10 minutes at the end of each day reviewing what went down and planning your priorities for tomorrow.

So there you have it – nothing too complicated, right? Focus on these straightforward strategies, and you should find yourself with more consistent energy throughout the week. Sometimes, the simplest solutions pack the biggest punch.
